Robert Emory Hadaway

Robert Emory Hadaway passed away on April 12, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in LaGrange, Georgia February 6, 1937. He moved with his family to Savannah in the 1940's. Robert graduated from Benedictine Military School, and attended Armstrong College. He joined the United States Marine Corps, and was stationed in Japan. He worked at American Cyanamid, and The Savannah Morning News. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Robert was a Civil War historian and an avid collector. He donated all of his collection of Civil War artifacts to The Virginia Military Institute History Museum, and his Civil War book collection to The Preston Library at VMI. He was a former member of History Hunters of Chatham County, and participated in Civil War reenactments throughout the country. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Phil Lanier Hadaway, Sr., and Margaret Emory Hadaway, and his brother, Dr. Phil Lanier Hadaway, Jr.
Robert is survived by his son, Robert Nathan Hadaway, niece Kerry Ellen Hadaway and husband Allen P. Cofield of Atlanta, GA; nephews; Phil Lanier Hadaway, III of Savannah, GA, and Mark Emory Hadaway and wife Erin M. Hadaway of Roswell, GA, and his faithful pet of 7 years, Clina.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 14, 2014 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Graveside Service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to caregiver Debra Evans, the Evans family and the Middleton family for their loving care and concern for Robert during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Benedictine Military School, 6502 Seawright Drive
